Naxos island, an island with marvelous endless sandy beaches
of unique beauty and picturesque villages scattered around its
territory.
Innumerous monuments, churches and towers, rich nature and local
products (meat, fish, dairy products and wine) are some of the island's
characteristics.

Rich in history, the island offers many historic monuments scattered all over its territory. The wealth of finds brought to light by the archaeological excavations that have been carried out for many years now, in a tireless attempt to uncover all the treasures of the past, indicate that Naxos was the most important center of the Cycladic civilization (4000 - 1000 B.C.).
As far as the architectural style is concerned, the houses in
Naxos town itself (otherwise known as the Chora) do not bear the mark
of the typical Cycladic home. There are, of course, certain common
elements, such as the defensive nature of the settlement, built as it
is on the side of a hill which forms a natural acropolis at the towns
highest point; the density of the buildings, again a result of the
defensive nature of the town; the fortification, and the expansion of
the settlement beyond the ramparts in later years.
